I was very fortunate to be offered the role as care coordinator after I had attended my organisations training to become a carer. Although I had previously done care work for many years in various fields being a care coordinator presented many new and different challenges.
Doing my NVQ (QCF) Level 3 in Health and Social Care helped me approach those challenges with more confidence and increased knowledge because it makes you think about how you address situations and gives you the skills to adapt, even to more difficult and demanding events.
One of the most valuable developments for me was that it presents you the opportunity to see and understand care giving from the clients perspective.
I knew that the skills and insight I learnt throughout my level 3 were invaluable not only as a care coordinator but also in my own role as a carer and importantly being able to support carers in the field with more confidence and increased knowledge. It gives you a wider range of tools to use to develop and adapt your working style to provide the best possible outcome for all those you work for and with.
