Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services
What is it?
This diploma is a nationally-recognised and competence-based qualification. Competence-based qualifications are work-based and give learners’ the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their knowledge and competence in their area of work. This diploma measures knowledge and competence against specific criteria. However, the programme that measures knowledge and competence is flexible in order to meet the individual learner’s needs. This diploma is suitable for those in employment or those who are studying at college and have a part-time job or access to a substantial work placement so that they are able to demonstrate the competencies that are required for work.
Who is it for?
This qualification is for learners’ who work in the social care sector. It gives learners’ the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their knowledge and competence in leadership roles, such as:
- Managers and assistant managers of residential services
- Managers and assistant managers of domiciliary services
- Day service managers and assistant managers
- Senior care workers
CQC (Care Quality Commission) stipulate that Registered Managers of residential homes should possess or be working towards this level 5 leadership diploma..
How is it delivered?
This diploma qualification comprises of 6 mandatory units, after which the remaining units are decided by one of 5 optional pathways, they are as follows:
- Adults’ Residential Management pathway
- Adults Management pathway
- Adults’ Advanced Practice pathway
- Children and Young People’s Advanced Practice pathway
- Children’s and Young people’s Management pathway
The optional pathway will be selected by discussion between the learner and the assessor.
The duration of this qualification is dependent upon the learner, on average it will take 18 months.
